These number of sessions are based on a June Start- for a September Start see the infographic below.
In my small group tutoring packages, your child will receive everything they need to excel in GCSE Maths. Each half term, they’ll complete a Next-Step Analysis paper to identify the five key topics we will focus on, with a personalised revision list updated regularly and tailored to their needs. Students are grouped with five others of similar ability, ensuring targeted support and expert teaching in 40 structured tuition sessions. Throughout the sessions, they’ll receive personalised feedback through a private chat, addressing their individual questions. Plus, with my Exam Ready workshops, your child will develop a resilient mindset, learn smarter revision techniques, and gain the tools to build confidence and perform under exam pressure. This holistic approach combines expert Maths tuition with mindset strategies, setting your child up for success both academically and emotionally.

One of the most important things for success in Maths is working at the right level — where the learning is challenging enough to stretch your child, but still accessible enough to build confidence.
When lessons are pitched correctly:
• Students stay motivated
• They feel successful, even with harder topics
• Their confidence and resilience grow, which leads to real progress
On the other hand, if work is too easy, it can feel boring. If it’s too difficult, it can be overwhelming. That’s why I place so much importance on getting the pitch just right.
What Does “Pitched Correctly” Mean?
In my lessons, a topic is pitched correctly when:
• It’s a topic your child needs to work on
• They already have the foundations to access the content, or these are built into the session
• They’re given opportunities to move beyond the basics and master the topic fully
How I Make Sure Every Session Is the Right Fit
I don’t teach all GCSE students together. Instead, I group Higher Tier students into small sets based on their current working level and target grade:
• Grade 7–9 Group: For students aiming for top grades
• Grade 5/6 Group: For students building confidence and aiming for a solid pass or to move up — also suitable for Year 10 students aiming for a Grade 6 or above by the end of Year 11
There’s also flexibility to move between groups as needed to ensure the best fit.
Before each new half term, students complete a next step analysis so I can plan each session around the areas they need to improve. This allows me to:
• Teach topics that will make a real difference to their grade
• Support the group with the right level of challenge
• Ensure that students are progressing, mastering skills, and feeling confident
Why This Matters?
Understanding how to pitch a lesson correctly is a skill I developed over 12 years of teaching in a secondary school, including in my leadership role within the Maths department. It’s something I was consistently praised for during lesson observations — and it’s a skill that truly makes a difference to how students feel about their learning.
Tutoring in a group setting takes more than just strong subject knowledge. Without classroom experience, many tutors find it challenging to pitch lessons to a group with different needs. My classroom background means I’m not just teaching — I’m making sure each student is supported, stretched, and steadily growing in confidence.
Confidence grows when work feels challenging but achievable.

Frequently
Asked
Questions
My teen is shy so I am worried they won't speak up in a group setting.
We use the private chat function during the sessions, which students use to both answer and ask questions. This means I am able to ask the group a question and see all of their individual responses, allowing them to think about their own response and not be distracted by others. This also allows me to provide personalised feedback. Students are able to speak over the mic as well if they wish to, to ask a question, but most prefer to use the chat.
What topics will be covered?
Before each half term, students will complete a next-step analysis. From there, I will identify 5 key topics that the group needs to focus on during the half term. We will address one topic each week to ensure in-depth understanding and targeted practice.
How will the needs of my teen be met within the group setting?
Before each half term, students will complete a next-step analysis. From there, I will identify 5 key topics that the group needs to focus on during the half term. We will address one topic each week to ensure in-depth understanding and targeted practice. For any other specific areas or misconceptions, I’ll address them during sessions or through personalised revision resources. If a topic arises that only one student needs to work on and another group is covering it, I’ll invite that student to attend the other session. While I can confidently address misconceptions in a small group, I understand some students and parents may prefer 1-1 support, so please see my 1-1 tutoring packages for more information.
How many students are in a group?
Each group will have up to 6 regular students. However, occasionally, a student from another group may join if the topic being covered aligns with their learning needs. This allows for flexibility and ensures every student gets targeted support, all while maintaining manageable group sizes.
Are the groups mixed-ability?
All students in the groups will be working on the higher paper, aiming for grades 5-9 at GCSE. I aim to group students with others who have a similar working grade. This means some groups may focus on grade 5-7 topics, while others will delve into grade 7-9 content. The topics covered are based on the group’s needs, which are identified through the next-step analysis.
What happens if my teen misses a session?
If your child misses a session, they can access a recording of the lesson or may have the opportunity to attend a catch-up session if the topic is being covered in another group.
Will my teen receive homework or extra practice?
For each topic, students will be given optional revision tasks to reinforce their learning. These tasks focus on exam-style questions and common misconceptions to aid further understanding.
Will you provide feedback to parents?
Students and parents will receive half-termly feedback on their progress.
Do you offer 1-1 support if my child needs extra help?
Yes, while group sessions are very effective, I understand that some students may benefit from additional 1-1 support. I offer additional 1-1 sessions discounted to £37.50 an hour for my group tutees (usually £50 an hour). Or I offer an annual 1-1 tutoring package similar to this small group package.
